Active Door & Window Company was founded in January 1967 by Bob Volk, Sr. and his wife Emma. It began with one pick-up truck and the warehouse was Bob's garage in West Islip in Long Island, New York. Active Door & Window rapidly developed into a larger business as his three sons, then of school age, helped out on weekends. All three sons, Bob, Bill and Ed entered the business as they graduated from school and helped build the business to the success it is today in Florida. Currently, there are two locations in Florida, with over 20 employees.

Bob Sr. and his wife bought a home in Punta Gorda, Florida in 1987, leaving their three sons in charge of the business in New York. In 1991, Bob opened the Punta Gorda location and his son, Ed, came to Florida to help run the operation. This business succeeded so quickly it now employs over 30 people with an additional showroom in nearby Port Charlotte. As Bob Sr. and his wife are now retired and enjoying the Florida lifestyle, Son Ed is now president of the Florida operation. Ed's two son's, Ed Jr. and Matt, are working together with Ed to bring innovative technology to the third generation of Active Door and Window
